sorry sophxo, but that's why most of us kill them. I have silky roosters, and I have to say they are an entirely different sort of male bird than my dual purpose roos, so I can see why you might feel this way. My silky roos are very gentle, the two brothers are best friends, and I don't think I could bring myself to kill, let alone eat, them. My dual purpose roos I raised up from two week old chicks. When they were little they were very sweet, and I was thinking that maybe I would keep them as pets. But then they matured. They are now very obnoxious males who constantly rape every female they can get ahold on, sometimes two or three ganging up together to pin down a hen. My poor hens are being run ragged, are constantly having their head feathers torn out by the males trying to catch them. I've had to separate out a couple of girls who needed a break. I've had to cull out some roosters just for the sake of my poor girls! The boys will soon be down to more appropriate numbers- the fact is that they eat much more food than the girls (food costs have gone down by a half since culling a few) and I would rather put them in the freezer and know they had a great, happy life until the end, than buy chicken in the store- that had a sad life with who knows what antibiotics, etc. in the meat.
