Instead of trapping and killing you can get some amonia and soak some rags in it and put it around the perimeter of the chicken yard the critters think there is a larger animal there and wont come around and leave. It really works!

Did you know that ammonia is a severe respiratory irritant to chickens?

This is such a wives tail. Even if it did help, smell wouldn't last long, and would evaporate quickly. Rain isn't going to help either. Urine is used in trapping to lure critters to the trap and to mask orders.

Its not a wives tail. The humane Society uses it and other local animal societies. I dont have to use it I have 5 dogs

Lol, the humane society. They will tell you anything to get one to stop shooting predators.

I've got 3 large dogs. I've got 2 of my 8 acres fence in. In theory, If the ammonia works, the ammonia from my dogs would keep critters away, correct? Well, it doesn't. Coons, opossums, skunks, fox, coyote still coming around frequently and testing the waters.
Sorry, but like a radio, flashing lights, and other internet remedies, ammonia doesn't work. PERIOD.

I got news for you, ammonia works against RATS. I soaked rags in straight ammonia and hung the dripping rags on the chicken wire going around the outside of my chicken pens after dark to deter a rat and mice invasion due to flooding rains 2 years ago.

The only high ground were my pens and that's where the rodents went after getting flooded out of their holes.
Two weeks of useless rat traps, poison bait stations, glue traps and cayenne pepper all to no avail, ammonia worked after 3 nights putting out the soaked ammonia rags. NO more rats... zero, nada, nothing.

If you've ever gotten a good whiff of ammonia, you know what I'm talking about and a rats sense of smell is 5 times better than ours.
