[[[.....do camels taste good?....]]]]
I've eaten llama, which is in the camel family, and the meat is nasty. It tastes like a camel smells. I can't imagine camel tastes any better. My dogs ate it, but they will eat road kill.
As for raising meat, what do you like to eat? 5 acres of what? Pasture? Sagebrush? Pine trees?
Pigs have a very good feed conversion ratio. I've raised hogs with 50% of the diet consisting of windfall apples--- if you happen to have a fruit orchard on those 5 acres.
If you've got irrigated pasture, then cattle are easy. You can also raise geese on pasture. Grass is their preferred food. It takes several months to put one on the table, but if you've got pasture, you've fed the geese for free.
The kind of fence you've got, or can afford to put in, affects what you raise. It takes a very tight fence to keep goats confined. It takes a very secure fence to keep coyotes out of your poultry.
