We've been getting loads of letters in the mail and when I asked my mom why she hasn't been spending the last two months writing a really good one like she does every year she just sighed and said "sometimes ignorance is bliss" because things have been bad for our family this last year. But I thought that was kinda funny.

I think it's super cute!!! Not braggy and in your face. The letters we detest on this thread are the ones that are full of junk that says how great and wonderful everything is going in someones life in a "I'm so much better than everyone tone."

That it couldn't be possible that anyone else has ever had anything so magnificent as her, or lived in a town as awesome as hers, had a child that could possible be as cute as hers, blah blah blah. Dear Family and Friends,
Sorry for not staying in touch for the past 5 years, thought I'd send a letter to keep you up to date and to invite you to our home for a family reunion on the 23rd.
Jack received his 4th DUI and will be calling home from the State Pen. I sure miss that man. Fortunately, his brother has moved in to help with the finances and it helps to pretend Jack is still here. The kids call him, "Uncle Daddy", isn't that cute?
Sally is 17 now and decided to abort her 2nd pregnancy so that she can complete her GED. I have always been against birth control and think she made a wise decision for her age. She isn't sure who the daddy might be, so there will be no problem with him fighting for his rights. Whew, that's a relief, I have stated to hate going to Court every month.
Jason was suspended from school again...sheesh! Now I have to drive him 17 miles one way to his new school. He just can't seem to stop fighting the bullies; he's smart enough to spot them before they can get in the first shot. It's never his fault; he's a good kid, just takes after his daddy. Like he said, "You can spot that look in a female's eyes and just KNOW she's gonna hit ya". I really want him to finish 6th grade.
Mom has had a rough year, bless her heart. She was speeding to the VFW after getting a phone call that Dad was fighting in the parking lot. Seems few people respect WWII Vets these days. Anyway, she was pulled over and ticketed for driving without a license. That is NOT her fault, it was the State's decision to declare her legally blind 2 years ago. Fortunately, the judge accepted the bribe (it's against the law for me to tell you what it was), and she was released on her own cognizance. Only got probation for one year and 87 hours of community service. In this State the hours of community service are based on one hour of service for every age of person committing the act. I reckon I'll have to drive her around now.
Oh, we installed a new phone line you can call to RSVP. The number is 555-5555. I'm expecting many phone calls and have asked the neighbor women to help me in answering that line. They needed a bit of extra income for Christmas so it'll cost $4.98 per minute when your husband calls, but these women are very friendly and can discuss anything he wants to talk about. If you notice phone bill charges in excess of $900.00, that just means he had to call back a few times for clarification on directions.

Ugh - I cannot stand those letters... We got one that took the CAKE & the ICING one year!
It began with the typical "Muffy and Drew are doing exceptionally well at private school -and Muffy was accepted at an Ivy League school...Jim and I went on a cruise around the world - twice - and dropped the kids off in Spain for the summer."
It went on and on and on.... then.... while droning on
about their wonderful trip around the world (while we're barely making it mind you...as most people now a days) - the SECOND PAGE (yes- there was a 2nd page!) was still about thier trip around the world, when it went into "Jim got violently ill - in a third world country (Uhm.. I didnt know freaking the part of China they visited was "third world"
) and had to have his appendix removed - we didnt speak the language but managed to find a person to translate...blah blah blah." She actually went INTO DETAIL about the entire operation and recovery - right down to his bowel movements!
So... it continued with "we got back on the next cruise ship (this is the "twice" part) and silly us - it was the wrong one as we ended up seeing the same countries we'd already seen!" (OH MY! HEAVENS FORBID -NOT TWICE?!!

OMG! let me jump on the bandwagon here. We get several of thoses letters each year.......and only one is not full of it!
On the other hand -I hate getting a card from someone far away that you haven't kept up with...
...and all they write is
"Dave"
