So, I just started getting eggs at the beginning of the month, but I hadn't found any in about a week and was starting to wonder... Last night I started really hunting around the coop, and low and behold, in a corner that I didn't think a chicken could even fit in, 9 eggs!! Sneaky little chickens! It's not like I don't have fabulous nest boxes for them!

mine do that too. They just want what THEY want. I had to come to the same slap in the face when i couldn't find any eggs for about a week and i look under the coop (its about 5 inches off the ground and there they were. Low and behold there were 13 eggs down there. Needless to say i had to put a 2x4 runner all the way around the bottom. that way i won't look like a dummy with my feet hangin out from under the coop again. My SO said it looked like the coop fell on me.

I can just picture you with your legs sticking out!! That's great!

I guess I'm going to have to put some of the DH's golf balls out in the boxes to see if that will help!

Yeah, go ahead and picture it cause i SURE didn't take any pics of it. It was hard as heck getting under there and then try and shuffle 13 eggs out from under there. It was classic and my SO though about the camera AFTER the fact and i was glad.

Mine decided to lay on the ground under the laying boxes for awhile, and I didn't realize it until there were about 25 eggs in the nest! The dogs ate good for a couple of days....

You have all answered my question which was "where are the eggs?" My six remaining (out of 25) hens are providing me only five or six eggs a week. One of the little dears just hasn't figured out the difference between pooh and an egg. I find her eggs broken under the roost, in the yard, or scattered about wherever. The other five use the same nest. I've been suspecting that they are laying but not in the coop. Since my entire chicken effort has been a bust due to my military determination to keep them free range, I've ordered 25 more hens and will confine them to a specific area (silly city girl me). Got a visual of Texas under the coop with his legs sticking out. Wish he had a photo to post. Well I'm off to the woods and up the mountain to look for lost eggs. Thanks everyone. PS - I have no amazing or understanding husband to appreciate but my adult children, grandchildren, and g-grandchildren are truly and marvelously amazing (they don't always understand but what the heck).
