Those that use goose diapers, how do you clean butts?

Mine are young and can't leave them outside on their own at the moment so Ive been using diapers so they can be with me indoors, but the area around their cloaca gets messy when a diaper is left on, even only as long as an hour...I don't know if it's because of their downy gosling feathers or if this problem will clear itself up a little bit when the adult feathers come through but I'm finding it pretty difficult to clean them up properly afterwards and I'm looking for tips please?

I don't really know about geese, but maybe let them swim a little and preen themselves?
