Those who use styrofoam egg cartons in bators...

Do you keep them from start to finish or do you take them out during lockdown?

I read somewhere to cut out the bottoms so...t hat's what I did but I'm in lockdown and unsure of whether to keep them in or take them out.

I use my egg turner until day 18 then use the cartons thru hatch....I like them better than the eggs playing ping pong during hatch

On day 18 I take them out of the egg carton and lay them on their side close to one another.

I use cut down styrofoam egg cartons all the way through, from setting to hatching. That is, if the eggs are going into any of the Octagon20s. If they're going in the MiniAdvance 'bators, there is no way to utilize egg cartons. But that's okay; the eggs are on their sides all the way through in those small 'bators.

I've used plastic, cardboard and styrofoam (went into lockdown tonight and currently using all 3!).... Honestly, if I could get more plastic egg cartons, i would use those but only because they are SOOOOOOOOO easy to clean... Just dunk them in the same bleach water I clean the bator with, rinse and let dry! I've tried hatching without the cartons and it's just so much messier that way..

Hatching now in styrofoam. They were in a turner and I put them in the cut down styro egg cartons for lockdown. Cut the bottoms out for better air circulation. .........10 out of 16 hatched, 2 more zipping now, still waiting on the other 4 to get started. ...........stan

I've only used the carton method. They are in the carton from day 1.

I use paper cartons though & just toss them when I clean up.

The cartons keep the eggs stable & heads up.. Not sure if it makes much difference - but they seem to do just fine with it. & none get kicked around by the first born.
