Thoses with goats at what age....

With banding its the easiest that I have found to do. Having the vet do it is what I call inhumane as they bleed alot. The burdizzo if you dont really know how to use it can backfire as it dont get all the cords and has to be redone. I will do the banding from now on as opposed to the cut and pull method ...havent dont the burdizzo.

>>The burdizzo kind of intimidates me

I bought a crimper since I thought banding was a bit cruel.

I haven't used it yet as my babies haven't been born....

I'll let you know if it intimidates me as well....

I would love to hear how it works for you. I have read on fiascofarm how to do it, but hearing a first-time experience would really be helpful.

If you haven't banded before...pay the $60 and have the vet come and take care of the goat. There is an advantage to having the vet do it (this time) - ask to vet to explain what he is doing so you can see what it is all about, that way you may feel a little more confident in doing it yourself in the future. Remember, if you try it yourself this time and something goes wrong, you will end up paying for a vet call anyway. Good luck!
