I sell and have bought from CL, have found some good deals. I do not like when someone selling something similiar flags your ad which has happened 3 times in the last week regarding firewood and each time CL has not removed my ad.

I would never in a million years buy livestock, particularly chickens, if I did not see their living conditions prior to purchase. You can tell a lot about how well cared-for an animal is by its environment, and that's more often than not a deciding factor for me in regards to whether or not I would buy a chicken from someone. If I answered an ad on craigslist and was told I would not be allowed to see the conditions and environment the animal was being raised in, that would be a red flag for me & I would not buy it.

I don't think I'm the only buyer who feels that way.

Just food for thought.

I have got a blue English angora rabbit with papers , Peruvian guinea pig and my first Silkies off of craigslist ,I only meet with people when my husband can go with me .

I will not get a dog or cat off of there as I am to afraid they will be mean and hurt my children .

I have had people ask why I do not let them come to the farm and I tell them it is for bio-security reasons. I have thousands of dollars worth of chickens, sheep etc. and I cannot take the risk... most people understand that. I have been told that I have very nice birds by my buyers and I can tell by the health/condition of the birds alone if they are well taken care of. Another reason I do not let people come to the farm is because of theft. Then there is always the wackos who think if you have more than 10 birds you are a hoarder or running a chicken mill. As of present I am in a financial condition that I do not "have" to sell my birds so I can afford to be choosy as to who I sell to... and I am I do not just sell a bird especially to someone that asks the wrong questions (they usually won't pay my price anyways) or shows up with feed sack and twine to carry them in. I do understand your side as the buyer though as I have bought birds myself and I will go to others farms if they let me but my experience has been most reputable breeders will not let anyone they do not know come to the farm. I have let a few people usually women and little kids come to the farm but they never go beyond my first fence and they usually do not have chickens yet so disease is not such a risk. If you go through one infectious disease outbreak and have to cull your flock you will surely think differently about visitors I assure you.

Got my 3 grown chickens from CL as young pullets and a cockerel, just be very careful as with making any purchase from individual sellers. I got lucky as do many people, but you never know I guess. Just do your research and dont be afraid to say NO if when you arrive to pick up the item(or chicken) it isnt what was advertised.

Just bought 3 turkey from CL picked them up in the dark and now I am thinking 2 toms and one hen supposed to be all hens. Got them cheap enough that I am not upset.
