Hi folks,
I was wondering how your experience with crow collars were. I haven’t used them before, but I have a night crower which I was hoping to use for breeding. I’m probably going to rehome him, but I thought I’d ask about crow collars first. I’ve heard people say they’re cruel, and I’m curious why.
Thanks in advance.

Wonders if 'night crowing' is hereditary?
Is this a young cockerel.... or....?
Are there other males around, maybe night is the only time he can get away with crowing?

Not sure I'd call it 'cruel', but inhibiting natural behaviors seems not quite 'right'.
Collars take a lot of tending to, and they can be fatal, tho some birds seem to get used to them.

Yeah, it’s a younger cockerel. Been mounting for about a month now. There’s other males within hearing range, but they’re in a separate coop. He crows during the day as well.
I think I’m going to rehome him. I found a good home for him. They’re coming to pick him up tomorrow. Thank you all for your help.

its not cruel to stop their crowing its just not right, their meant to crow, its how they show their head chickens and for other roos and predators to stay away... i wouldnt do it to my roosters but its really up too you,,,

Thanks for your opinion. I’ll keep all this in mind for the future, but I’m going to rehome this cockerel. I appreciate everyone’s advice!

Absolutely cruel roo's are meant to crow
Sorry I disagree. Have you used one?
They do not stop your Rooster from crowing. They make the crow quiet enough so as not to annoy anyone.
I have one on my Cockerel. He crows more than any of my previous boys! Just at a lower volume.
He treads like Rudolf Nureyev.
He loves on his ladies like Casanova.
He's a very happy boy.
