Hi. Please don't be put off by people claiming they are cruel. They are not.Hi folks,
I was wondering how your experience with crow collars were. I haven’t used them before, but I have a night crower which I was hoping to use for breeding. I’m probably going to rehome him, but I thought I’d ask about crow collars first. I’ve heard people say they’re cruel, and I’m curious why.
Thanks in advance.
I've noticed these crow collar threads being shut down in the past by people claiming they are cruel, when members are just looking for advice.
I'd like to know how many of those people (Not referring to any one personally) have dogs with cropped ears or docked tails or gelded horses!
I would buy ready made at first. Then use this as a template. You may need it to be bigger/smaller or to save money. I always make sure the side of the collar in contact with skin/feathers is soft.
The collar will need to be adjusted and checked regularly. Some take an hour to get used to them when you first put it on. Others don't even notice.
Crowing in my experience very much depends on the individual bird. Some of mine have hardly crowed at all (collar or not) Some like the sound of their own voice.
I hope you can keep a Cockerel. I think the hens benefit from it. Watching them interact is very cool.
