Thoughts on my future flock?

Yes. I was looking at mypetchicken.com. They have all the breeds I wanted.

It’s gonna be a tough decision. Hahaha. Just about consuming my thoughts right now.

I was good with a list until @Percheron chick brought up egg color and then I started looking at Black Copper Marans and Easter Eggers. I see that EE have a very good disposition and lay very pretty eggs and CM lay red/brown eggs.

So now I’m at a fork….want a very pretty flock with mostly brown eggs or a take some Wyandotte’s out- add EE’s and CM for pretty eggs?

Right. Some people just like the birds they like. You could get six gorgeous wyandottes from Brinkhaven and a small order from my pet chicken. Araucanas or cream legbars or whiting true blues are more the heritage route for color over EEs, which are basically mutts lol. But nothing wrong with going basic with the BCMs and EEs for the sake of accessibility. I think MPC will ship as few as four.

ETA You might want to check shipping dates on MPC though. I found ONE splash Marans left, and THREE few golden cockoos left in May, but that's about it. *If* they will ship only three birds, you could go that route and have some darker eggs in the mix.

Mt Healthy has some beautiful birds, and a reasonable ship rate for a small group. I love my Speckled Sussex, and my Welsummer is the leader and super super people friendly. She will come running and call the rest as soon as I come outside!

I would highly highly recommend a Barred Plymouth Rock. A nice striped chicken with a fabulous personality. My favorite breed of all!

Mt Healthy also has a variety of Marans if you like dark eggs. And a cream legbar, a cool & funky looking chicken with a tiny floof of feathers on their head and blue eggs for variety!

Yeah, you have it correct.
Coop at night, then access to the 10x20 run. Then when I get home from work at 1600hrs, free range on 3/4 acre backyard.

They have a noir Marans the same day, BCM, and I think Lavender Orpingtons, too!

That's cool. May 31st is looking like a good day, Wyandottes, BCM, Barnvelders, Welsummer, Speckled Sussex, Buckeye etc. Lots of solid choices I think you'd be really happy with. That said, if they will ship only three, this might also be a good way to get all your fancy pants Wyandottes from the other place, and coordinate the shipping dates for a few extras to round it out. That's awesome! Don't feel like you have to get ALL THE BREEDS. You'll never be able to. A very wise woman once said, get the pretty chickens you love... The rest will fall into place lol

Oh totally. Even last year was not this crazy, but it's already kind of late in the season to be super picky about which chickens, considering people have been placing orders MONTHS in advance. I think you are discovering now the reality of chick shopping in these present times. But also you don't need to panic buy. They are still just chickens. Whatever you end up with will be lovely

July 5 has a good amount that you are looking for also! Speckled Sussex, Gold Wyandotte, Silver Wyandotte, Black Australorp, Blue or Splash Laced Red Wyandotte, and a few others people mentioned: Buff Orpington, Barred Plymouth Rock, Black Cooper Marans, and Americana (Easter Egger).

Oh, and Bielefelder too! I ordered one this year based on recommendations from people on this website about their wonderful personalities!
