Thoughts on these breeds?

I was originally getting 2 white chochins, 1 blue orpington, 1 lavender Orpington and a Dominique. I’m having to push out my delivery a bit and choices can vary. The Dominique may not be available on my dates. Any thoughts on changing out the Dominique for a buff Orpington or Ameraucana? Looking for docile, friendly and generally quieter breeds and a flock that gets along.

Ameraucanas are very friendly for sure. They are smart, kind breeds and are good for taking care of their flock. Where are you buying from? Some hatcheries label Easter eggers as ameraucanas.

All of those are generally friendly breeds and would do well in a flock together. Dominiques are great layers, friendly and get along well with other chickens. Ameraucanas are for the most part friendly (though some are really flighty), and their blue eggs will add color to your basket. Another orpington would work well because then you will have a lot of chickens with a similar temperament. Really, you can't go wrong whichever one you choose!

Thanks for your input JadeFarms! these will all be hens and MeyersHatchery lists their ameraucana as separate from the Easter Eggers. I read about the temperaments of specific breeds but it’s nice to know from owners of the breeds.

Ameraucanas are the best breed 100%. They are sweet, adorable, and colored eggs is a bonus. I will also always opt for Cochins. Also one of the sweetest breeds alive.

Lots of people reccomend buff orpingtons like they are the only orpington, but all the other orpingtons are also sweet and docile.
