Thoughts on Ultra Kibble

Hello All,
Long time peruser, first time poster. I'm looking for reviews of Resolve Ultra Kibble. I did a search on this site, but most of the results were related to game birds, or were written by the product's formulator, Kermit Blackwood (a.k.a. "Resolve" on this forum). Blackwood is, obviously, a proponent of his own product, and doesn't seem shy about promoting it on this site. But I'm looking for unbiased feedback, primarily regarding laying hens and meat chickens. In other words, I'd like to know how the typical laying hen or broiler does on a diet supplemented by Ultra Kibble.

In the interests of full disclosure, I'm a buyer for a store that specializes in urban homesteading, and am considering adding Ultra Kibble to our backyard poultry section. I also keep chickens myself. A distributor gave me a Forage Cake sample, but when I put it in the coop, my chickens wouldn't touch it. I tried breaking it up a bit for them, but they still wouldn't go for it. After a week, I removed it, smashed it up, and scattered it in the yard for the birds. UltraKibble is one of the main ingredients in Forage Cakes, so I'm wondering if it was this or something else that my girls didn't like.

I will say that I'm concerned by how highly processed UltraKibble is compared to milled feed. I also wonder about the high protein content. I think layers do fine on up to 24/25%, but the 40% in UK doesn't seem economical. That said, quality-wise, the ingredients seem in line with other feeds.

So, my concerns aside, I'd love to hear testimonials, good or bad, from folks who have actually fed UltraKibble to their flock. Is it worth it? Is it a fad? Will it benefit my clients' chickens? Also, in what applications do you use it?

Thanks for your help.

He listed a farm/phone# (post #19 in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=140469&p=1 ) that apparently used the product. Still waiting on the info. on the quantity/quality of droppings, etc. when compared with other feeds.

Can't comment on those particular `forage cakes'. However, our turks were never introduced to plain old suet cakes when they were poults and simply won't touch them. Our neighbor's turks were introduced to the things early on and would peck through the plastic wrapper to get at the grease (same thing with chooks and Purina flock blocks - some flocks destroy them while others use them to roost on).

It's been quite awhile since this was posted, can anyone give a review now many months later, i am interested in using this if it is worth the money. thanks

We've been using it as a supplement for almost a month now. I add 10%, or less, to their daily feed ration. So far, all the chickens that have started laying, lay, good hard shelled eggs. A little over a month ago we also switched their feed (now on 2nd 50lb. bag) to Countryside Organics. I can't say for certain whether or not the feed or the Ultrakibble has made the difference in the way the chickens look, but they have better looking plumage and are very healthy. They used to eat shed feathers, now they don't. They dropped a lot of feathers, now they don't.

You can contact the maker of Ultrakibblek who is a member of BYC, and I am sure he will answer your questions. His name is "Resolution" on the forum, and here is his profile page https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/profile.php?id=22421.

I
ordered a sample pack from Dawson's in IA, which for $25 got me (2) 28oz bags of Ultrakibble and (2) 13oz forage cakes. I will be reordering the Ultrakibble because I believe it has the supplemental nutrition to help keep our girls healthier.

Hope this helps.

I just bought the chick formula today. It has 32.25% protein. I have been trying like mad to find a way to increase the protein of my 20% soy free, non-gmo chick starter as I am raising heritage broilers and need to help them reach weight as fast as possible. This seems like the perfect solution. I though it was a complete feed and read the back out of interest. It is exactly what I have been wanting!!! I will see tomorrow if they have eaten everything but the kibble LOL. Really glad to have found it! Oh yeah, feeding it at a 1/9 ratio.

So they hated it....but all is not lost! I added it to my fermented feed mix and they eat every bite!!! :)
