Thoughts on Universal healthcare

But with universal care, isn't it all supposed to be the same?​

Wife.. I think its different in Canada - mjh said it varies from place to place up there, like B.C. isnt the same as Ontario. I dunno.. You would think it would be the same across the board given Canada is a country though... and not go individually through the provences or whatever they call them up there LOL!

So... for those of you in the UK - what is your healthcare like so we can compare?

I do know that our system in Ontario is "basic" coverage...which includes:
any visit to a medical doctor
vaccines for children and most vaccines for adults
surgeries and meds and supplies used during surgeries
mental health

we need to pay on our own or through our employers insurance coverage for:
Dentist ...(there is a plan for low income families to care for children to provide dental coverage)
Eye exams and glasses (children and seniors are covered the average price of an eye exam is about $35 but most places wave the fee if you are getting your glasses there)
prescriptions..(there is a foundation called the trillum foundation to help those in low income situations

I know I am forgetting a lot but this is the basics

and frankly, i dont trust our govt. to do it right...

..i believe there will be MORE people needing/waiting for care here if we change over to universal.

BC also has lower tax rates then we do in Ontario

hmm.. so your gov't run program doesnt include Rx's then? Ouch - that would hurt terribly here in the US... on average, what do your meds run if you dont mind me asking? Just basic meds, like antibiotics. So if you get cancer for example..they expect you to pay for your cancer meds for treatment and follow-up? Meds here, just ONE PILL (cant recall the name of it) runs almost $1,000.00 PER PILL!

So how does that work then?

I know English Chick I thought said at one time the UK's system does include meds....

Heck the government cant run this country so as it is, here's the basics look at our roads and bridges falling apart, all are taxes we pay, were are they going???

, i certainly don't want them running my health care system for me.

Yes, you're right.

I'm certainly not saying that it's perfect in Canada, or that it would work perfectly here. But it can, and does work elsewhere. How well it works in Canada apparently varies by province, just like it varies here by state. Just for the record, I'm not sold on either system, I'm just weighing the pros and cons.

it is a well known fact that there are US citizens coming to Canada to have their prescriptions filled cause we are wayyyy less expensive
