Maybe there lies the issue? It cost way to much to become a doctor. If it cost less to become a doctor then all these EMTs, firemen an LPNs might take more schooling. Then you would have more idealist doctors to offset all these money hungry brats in med school now.

I would explain as, the government controls and runs everything.
No private businesses, no private anything pretty much.
I believe that is where this country is headed.

Someone may have a better explanation for you.

Good reason for public funding of higher education. Doctors are in a profession to help people. Amazingly some actually do it for that reason vs making a lot of money. If they didn't have 12 years of student loans to pay back they could help people and still survive. This country is way behind in social issues.

I personally believe doctors deserve to make a lot of money. The intelligence and knowledge required should be compensated.....

NOT only that, its the 12 plus years they spend in training after high school, where they are compensated ZILCH and accrue LARGE debts. Most physicians don't get out of debt until they are in their 50s. Some never get out of debt.

Doctors do make quite a bit of money depending on their specialty. They go through 12 years of school with a ton of hours. They also have a lot of exposure to liability issues. They pay a ton for malpractice insurance. I don't believe that medical school enrollments are down. If they are I'm sure it's a reflection of the economy vs being afraid they won't make enough money. They'll still get paid the same as they are now. Most insurance companies base their payment schedule on the Medicaire payment schedule. In additon I'm sure if they go with nationalized healthcare the gov will pay for medical education just as they do now for military doctors. Therefore no student loans. Of course they would have to work for the gov just like the military docs do. Then when they're done they can become brain surgeons and make millions.

Excuse me, you are correct. Enrollments are currently not down. APPLICATIONS for enrollment have plummeted.

Lower enrollments or more poorly prepared (less intelligent) students is the next step.

"Quality" Universal Healthcare coming up.
