Thoughts on Universal healthcare

I will admit I didn't read the whole thing.... but why does it seem there are only 2 options? Keep the current system or go Universal? Are there no other ways?

Take out the insurance part all together.... don't attach insurance to a job..... medical facilities lower their fees.... stop sueing over stupid stuff..... anything but more government control!

We should think outside the box. Take the money you would have spent on your premiums and invest or just put it in a savings account. I know of one family that did this and ended up buying several rental units with the money they saved up. Then you have the cash to pay for things as they happen.

No more government-run programs! Not the way our government runs them. They have too many responsibilities already. Though I agree that companies should not make a profit off sickness. Drug companies should stop advertising drugs too. That really ticks me off. Doctors know what drugs you need without you saying ' I saw this on tv. Can I have it?'

And I will never watch a Moore movie. Saw a portion of Sicko....He has an agenda.

Someone said " Get a job, then go to the doctor." It seems to me it is mostly the working people who CAN'T go to the doctor lol. All the nonworking people I know have government sponsered health care and can go to the doctor any time they want.

(Just in case you don't know where I stand on the issue, I am not for Universal Healthcare.) Nope, I'm not a socialist to any degree whatsoever. Perhaps a few of you need to move to a socialist country, and leave us to our miserable, but free country, where we are losing the few freedoms that we still have-rather quickly in the past month, I might add.

(I think a few of you would change your mind very shortly, but if you come crawling back to the good ole U.S.A, it just might still be a free country-that is if the Socialists don't get their way, to let you back in the country!)

Doctors actually know very little about the drugs they prescribe....the depend on nurses to make sure that what they are prescribing is not contraindicated in the patient. I probably have to call a physisian 7-10 times a month to question a script they put a patient on because it would be harmful to the patient or will react to another drug tat patient is on.

Sure some drugs they know because the prescribe them all the time, but most they only know what the drug rep told them when he/she walked into the dr's office and dumped a bunch of samples on the desk.
 
I have said it before and I will say it again for those who may have missed it...

the system of health care in Canada is NOT perfect BUT IT WORKS

each province runs its own system, the coverages, wait times, standard of care is different from province to province

everywhere you go you will find people unhappy with something, from the fruit being to ripe to the heat being to hot....face facts you will never make everybody happy

with Ontario having a population over 13 million people and to only find a handful that are suing the government for health care related claims i would say that leave a pretty high percent that are either happy or satisfied with the system. Yes there are people who are not happy with it and just not complaining

I cant comment on the state of the health care in the other provinces for the simple fact of i have no idea how they are run.

Our doctors are FAR from swimming in their school debts. huge homes, expensive cars, vacation properties the list goes on and on. Yes they do pay malpractice insurance.

I would really urge those who think that socialized health care is the work of the devil and not good and will wreck the nation to come and spend a week with me and see socialized health care in action...call it a week long learning vacation because unless you have seen it first hand in action you are only basing your opinion on someone other persons research and then their opinions get mixed in with fact too

Thanks for your input on this topic....I have seen you post the above half a dozen times and everybody continues to ignore reality and spread around false rumors they hear from that radio pill popper or Neil Bortz or somebody:rolleyes:
 
I am half Canadain and live in the US. Half my family lives in Canada half lives here

I am also an RN who has no current health insurance ..my son also has no health insurance

I am totally in support of Universal healthcare have been since I first understood it.

Jealous of Canada? absolutely! my cousins and their families never worry about it! To live in a country where it is not a dinner table discusssion at all ..you just live with the security of knowing that you can if you get ill just go to the doctors is a wonderful one

I have friends who have put in 30 years retiring and living with no health insurance ...coming back to work as nurses so they could afford coverage

call me a socialist if you want to but if you do then you do not really understand the term! I just want to be able to not worry about getting sick and ending up with horrific bills as a result of needing to go to the hosptial! is is scary!

my father was a private practice physician and Canadian and feels very strongly we need to move forward with this. He made money in the US but now while he is in his golden years and the economy is falling he has concerns and huge bills for his and my mother's health care! so freaking sad! not just because he is a doctor but because people should not have to worry about paying massive medical bills! not when there is another option!


I can not imagine how we can say anything negative about the Canadian system when here we have health care providers working with no insurance them selves because it is too expensive?? How many people from the US cross the boarder just to get dental and eye care that is affordable? a LOT! not to mention the drugs! We have chartered buses that go here in WA

the doctors I work with are also retiring with fear about healthcare now and very much in support of a new system ..there has been a big shift as we watch our friends retire and wish their lives away waiting to get national healthcare!

my best friend (an RN) works part time and uses a community health clinic on a slide scale ..she literally works to pay to support medication and doctor's visits for a chronic condition ...she is not sick enough to quit entirely and go through the humiliation of SSI but she is not healthy enough to carry a full time position

my story I need the money! my husband makes a good living but he is self employed ..I work part time to remodel our home and do work in our yard ..I would have to work more make more money and not be at home to help him do the work here for health insurance! I just can not do that right now it is one or the other and if I do not help him now we can not get this done and hopefully be able to enjoy it during retirement when I will have to work for the money to pay for health insurance! Thank goodness right now (knock wood hard) we are both healthy people! but we are also in our 50s so who knows we are walking a tight wire!

long story short I am a Democrat not a Socialist (although I am fine with the whole idea it is not what I practice politically) and yes I am 100 percent for universal healthcare and hope that in the next few years we find a way to implement it!

I read all of this and still do not understand why on earth you could not imagine this being good for the country

but to each his own

I just want to enjoy my life and not fear illness for financial reasons
