Thoughts on using a small animal cage to hold chicks?

I see this type of thing on Facebook Marketplace all the time…thoughts on using it for chicks? Will they be okay tenperature-wise with a Hover Heater?

With that size, I could see brooding around 3-4 chicks in there for a few weeks. Would probably try to get them into a bigger brooder or outside pretty quick though. That's going to get decently cramped pretty quick.

For the heater, I'd be a little concerned about the plastic. Some of the cheap-o stuff can give off fumes at relatively low temperatures. So, depends on what the plastic actually is for this aspect.

I have mine in a dog crate with cardboard under it going up the sides to keep chicks and sawdust in. I have way too many in mine but hopefully they're in coop this weekend!
