So I moved my chickies out to the coop 2 days ago.
26 chicks
6 Jersey Giants (brought home April 29)
6 Cornish Cross of some kind (brought home April 29)
3 Australop (brought home May 14)
11 Easter eggers (Brought home May 14)
All these chicks were in my living room brooder set-up until 2 days ago when I moved them out to the coop as a group. I was waiting until the outside temps were 50/60+ all the time so they wouldn’t get cold.
Now my question is i have some temps now forcasted at 37 overnight. My initial instinct is to hook up the heat lamp for them during this dip in temps And I employ the “do what feels right for the birds” method of thinking anytime I do for the chicks which has not done me wrong.

what does everyone else think?
Oh And by he way I live in the majestic catskill mountains of NY.

I'm upstate of you a bit and we aren't supposed to get temps quite as low (fingers crossed) but if they're all together in the coop, I would say they are fine to be out. Chickens hatch babies out in frigid temps. I imagine they will all just huddle together if they get cold.

Thanks for the reply! I was thinking the same way. They are all very happy to be out in the huge coop with tons of space and different levels for them to play on. So I should be able to tell rather fast. And I didn’t expect it to get down below 50 again, but that’s what happens when you live on the top of a mountain. Weather is rather weird here in Liberty. We seem to have 100% skipped spring here, I had accumulating snow fall 2 weeks ago. Now it’s 75/80 and humid humid humid. Then down to 35 for a low tomorrow night.

Rig the lamp. Trust your instincts.
I think I’m going to rig it and then just check on them every few hours.

3 kids and 3 dogs I have lost the ability to sleep so if they look huddled real close I’llkick it on. I don’t want the little to get crushed by the Cornish monsters I ended up with by accident
