Thread for my new ducklings

Yes they are getting very big!

Yes i know about crested ducks and the issues they can have, I lost a crested duck because he was born with issues. Pearl was not meant to be an only duck, I had got her and Pete from a local feed store as a pair, I was told they were Pekins, obviously that wasn't true. A very long story short, at about two months old he started having seizures, it went from 1 every couple hours to 3+ an hour and we had to put him down. After researching on crested ducks i realized he had shown signs from day one (Pearl could get in and out of the pool and he could not, he would always flip on his back etc..)
It was traumatic and sad, I still cry thinking about him.

I feel kind of stupid for getting another crested after that happened and telling myself I would not do it. Pearl is such a great duck and this crested is so sweet and docile, they have the best personalitys.
And I forgot about Pearl being crested too. You have been through it so you know now what to look for and what to do and hopefully there won't be any problems. I am sorry about Pete

Won't be long before Pearl will have some buddies to hang out with.

Yeah. Later today the ducklings are going to have their first time outside since they are about two weeks old and it's 80F today :) and pearl will get to see them (the ducklings will be in a separate pen and she can see them but not touch until they are used to each other)

That will be interesting hope it goes good. I think once they get larger and they have been meeting together they will be close buds.

Everything went well, she didn't even care they were there, lol. I let my baby chicks have some outside time too and the hens were very interested in them.

Look how big they have gotten and so pretty too, and your chicks are precious. Won't be long before Pearl will be with her 3 buds full time. May take quite a bit longer on the chicks. Glad it is going so well!

Today they had more outside time and pearl loved talking to them through the fencing and the babies were very interested in watching pearl swim around in her pool

yeah I'm excited for when they can be with pearl all the time!

Yes I will be waiting until the baby chicks have grown plenty big before I let them out with the hens, my sex links are vicious!
