At first i thought they had an incurable disease they got during hatching but they have improved quite a bit. Their faces arent as crusty looking, eyes not as swollen and sneezing has decreased however they have i can hear at times when they breathe and they make a unique noise sometimes almost i cant even describe it. I will have to or audio record it to get an opinion. Do you guys think maybe ita a cold or like an pneumonia or can chickens even get asthma? The noise sounds like asthma ish i dont know, like i said i cant describe it.. Anyways, started with 6 now have three remaining its been almost 4wks sincs i lost one, so i think they will survive plus they are acting alot better

Swollen eyes with crusty drainage in chicks that age can be a sign of mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) a chronic respiratory disease which affects most types of poultry. It is spread through direct contact, from waterers and feeders, and through hatching eggs of carriers. Carriers do not have to appear sick, but they may have been exposed to or had an outbreak of MG. MG affects chickens in that they may never gain as much weight or lay as well as healthy chickens. MG can come back to them whenever they are stressed, such as during cold weather or molting. Sorry about your chicks.

Yes, thats what i thought they had but they have improved significantly. symptoms can just disappear? like the eyes are not swollen anymore. I am scared to introduce them to the rest of my flock.. Is the only way to tell is to take them to vet because i do not have funds for that ??

I feel like a pest constantly posting about them and their progress i just hate having to wash my hands and worry about spreading it i disinfect and even change shirts even shoes, anytime i come in contact with them because i dont want to risk the other chickens catching it!

Where did the chicks come from? Have you ever noticed any of your regular flock sneezing or having similar symptoms? Figuring out where they got it may be good. Have you added any new birds to your flock recently who may not have shown symptoms? BCM's are very sought after birds, but I wouldn't introduce them into my flock if you get them from somewhere else. They can recover from symptoms, but they would always be carriers of MG if that is what they have. A necropsy performed by a state vet after death, and shipping a body on ice packs, is one way to get a diagnosis. Contact your State Dept. of Agriculture Poultry Vet.

A swap meet with tons of animals.. poultry pigeons guiness geese swans turkeys chickens and even rabbits.. My friend got a full grown rooster from same swap as me same day to add to her whole flock and the whole flock started acting sick. only two eggs a day out of close to 50 hens... Thankfully mime were babies and have been kept in spare room away from my flock in my back yard. .. So one has to die for me to send out i wish i would of known so i could of sent one of the three that passed a few weeks ago. Ill contact them. I bet its not cheap but i dont want to infect the rest of my flock if they are carriers

No i havent they have never been around my regular flock and from day one before i got home i noticed they werent acting like most babies their age end seemed lethargic on the way home. Im really ocd about washing hands incase the babies are carriers so i dont infect my other birds!!
