Three enormous dogs

Let us know whatthe owners say when / if you confront them

You know something makes me think these were hungry dogs. With the economy being like it is and so many families hurting financially, these dogs might just not be getting enough food. Does anyone else have these thoughts? I know it doesn't make it right but it could be an explanation.

Exactly what I was thinking. It does seem a gun in good hands would have been useful here.

I am glad you are okay. That had to be terrifying.

there was a story this past winter where 3 pit mixes were running around a neighborhood in michigan. They attacked and killed an elderly woman (unknown at the time) and then attacked a newspaper delivery boy on his bike. Fortunately a passerby witnessed the boy being drug off his bike and saved him.

The owners of the dogs were unaware they had gotten out of their backyard. they were charged with reckless endangerment and manslaughter (maybe more but thats all I saw on the news). All of the dogs were put down.

there are too many sad stories of this though.

doglady8, give your dogs the benefit of the doubt based on their past behavior. If they have high prey drive, you would probably know, unless they are still young or puppies. Still, it would probably be prudent to introduce them to the chicks one at a time.

Let me say this though, some people are not cut out to take somethings life. Some people aren't calm enough under stress or don't have the skills to make a humane shot under this kind of situation , if you are in either one of these catagories, calling 911 is the better idea

It sounds like you have no experiance with a firearm If you decide to get a gun see if the gunshop can recomend a local club or some one to show you the basics most gun clubs will help any one wanting to learn. get you into a safety class and so on. if you were close I would help you.and as said above practice. always wear safety glasses and hearing protection.

This is solid advice. After having my home broken into (we were 2 college girls - and they knew we were home) I bought a gun. Even tho I was raised around guns as a kid, my father insisted that I take a firearm safety course. I registered for an 8 week course through the San Diego police department. Best thing I ever did.

Just remember - never access a gun or point it at ANYONE or ANYTHING unless you are prepared to kill it. Immediately. If you don't think you could do it, don't buy a gun. Words to live by.

When you get your gun always.

1. Assume it is always loaded when you pick it up.
2.Only point it at something you want shot.

Take a safety course and buy a gun that feels right for you.

Mom always liked her 20 guage and .22, low kick, lighter firearms.

I suspect you may be right. These days many people are losing jobs and homes and the animal shelters are often so full thay can't take any more animals. People are abandoing their animals, and these may have been abandoned and hungry. A pack of wild dogs is a dangerous thing.

I am glad you escaped them without injury and didn't lose your livestock. Thank goodness your AC officers responded quickly enough.
