Hi friends,

i have three grown up fawn and white Indian Runner ducks, they are about ten months old and have surprisingly started to lay last year in December and stopped after a few weeks.
Since early march of this year i find one duck egg every morning and i don't know which duck is laying it. Could it be that the girls take turns and lay an egg every three days?
If a grown up duck doesn't lay, is that a reason to be concerned?

My six runner girls took their regular winter break, and no one laid again until March 22, when Quinn (who lays green) and one other girl produced. From then on, I got one to two duck eggs a day until April 2, when there were four. Since then, it's ranged from two to five a day. I just figure it takes a while to get rolling again.

Some of my chickens still haven't resumed production. Slackers!!!

I've got some experience with how to tell who's laying. Grab the duck, wrap it in a towel, put her on her back and put food coloring around her vent. Obviously different colors! It helps to have 2 people for this because the vent isn't all that easy to find, at least for me it wasn't. You've got 3 ducks so you only really have to do this to 2 of them and in the morning you'll be able to tell who's doing what!

I did my Eva's vent blue when she was having her issues back the beginning of February and I can still see it on her butt feathers but it's not on the eggs still.

They may be alternating days, they may not all be laying. I think the food coloring is your best bet! One of my ducks just resumed laying today from her winter break, so now most of my flock (ducks and chickens) are laying again, I'm still waiting on one last duck to lay again after winter break. They certainly can take their time about it.

All 4 of my girls layed pretty regularly all winter long and then in March I would get anywhere from 2-4 eggs a day. Last week I was getting 3 or 4 then all of the sudden yesterday I got one and today nothing. I suppose they are just taking their little break. My girls all just turned one year old earlier this month. I was told they are just taking their necessary break and will resume in time.

My girls get sneaky in the spring. I have found hidden nests full of eggs. I think they cross their little legs and wait to lay until I let them out. So, you might be on the look out for a hiding spot.

yep... I thought I only got one duck egg yesterday and blamed the weather, then this morning I found more eggs than I have ducks, they'd buried their eggs in the straw :barnie

the day before yesterday I thought I had collected all the eggs and when I was turning the hay with my fork I :eek:stuck an egg that was in the nest I collected the eggs from. They can be sneaky!
