I would pray your cockerel is a gentle one. Cockerels need a minimum of 10 hens to prevent stress on them caused by overbreeding. Some roosters however have a tendency to be laid back. I have a Black Copper Maran rooster that I kept with only two hens and you would never notice a feather was missing from the hens.
