I will be crossing pea to Malay, she'll make Sex-links which maybe useful. May keep 1 male, & 2 female from them.

I let the Malay boys visit Pea a couple days ago, & she didn't like them very much. The boys weren't sure what was going on.
Pea is a feisty girl.

Goliath has began breeding, but as far as I can tell, he hasn't done so successfully yet. He's still at practice stage still, trying to figure things out.

Getting a few Saipans, so maybe I can use them too. Or just use them for adding genetic diversity to the Malays. There's really not a big difference between the two breeds.
I think you're right.
Are you getting them from a hatchery?
I used to know someone from Kentucky that had the real Saipan chickens. I saw some pictures of his Saipan and they really resembled a Malay. Not exactly like a Malay, but very similar.

I'm getting 3 from Cackle.

The only couple differences I see between them are combs, & tail set. Overall body type is very similar.
Personal opinion here:
I think if someone took the time and had the patience and space, they could create a breed that almost exactly resembles the original Saipan. It would take several years of hatching a lot and critical selection based on type and disposition and not on personal favorites.
Key here would be to hatch as many as possible, preferably no less than 60 a year.
