I do not know if they quite rate as pest, but I have had a lot of them this year. At least 3 or 4 are in my little quarter acre orchard and they are frequently jumped on mowed trails connecting barn, woods and house. They give a start when launching at your feet or almost land on your head. Dog was trying point one out I could see when she flushed another off to her side. I would flush at least one most evenings all summer too. They used to be a big deal to me, now just like squirrels or rabbits.

Such funny birds. My issue is. that like grouse, they often wait until the last possible second to fly up scaring the 'dickens' out of myself and my dog. Then the grouse would fly along the trail through the woods just above reach of my dog.
