Time to go outside for good?

I leave them in their coop for 2 or 3 full days and then let them out as normal. After that they know coop is home and I’ve never had any problems doing this in my 5 years of keeping chickens.

This works as well, as long as there's ample space, ventilation and natural light inside the coop.

Leaving windows open is what I do. I like to put at least two windows in my coop that can open and close.

That can help, but I've found getting them to go back inside at dusk can still be an issue.
Have seen this numerous time since raising chicks in the coop for 10 years.

Mine still don’t necessarily go into their coop at dusk, even though they’re two years old. If they’re farther afield then I have to go chase ‘em back - it’s like the even forgot the coop existed.

I imagine free ranging would be a different set of issues.
