time to play chicken mythbusters!

yeah, rotten egg farts...

(no, that was a joke)

I put too much of the cold medicine up my nose, I can't smell anything anymore.

Our coop smells fine, but maybe it's because it's next to the pigpen.
If a hobo stands next to a port-a-potty, the hobo may not smell too bad. Well..... that's certainly debatable.

(Before anyone gets all up in arms about my hobo vs. toilet comparison, telling me how insensitive I am, I'll take it upon myself to offer an apology in advance for my insensitivity.

So... I'm sorry, toilets.

I agree

I haven't noticed any problem with flies, but there is a big barn and a huge pasture just across the road all full of sheep. If there were a few hundred extra flies I doubt anyone would notice.

#1 "you need to move the pen away from the house because once they start laying their poop will smell worse and there will be more of it" Yep you are better off the futher away from your house you can get the coop. Reason not so much smell from it but chickens sitting at your front or back doors pooping waiting on treats from you. Just read all the posts related to that problem.

#2 golf balls... are they good for anything other than snake protection? Snake protection not sure how they would protect chickens from a snake. Unless you mean they would eat them thinking they are eggs. Which would kill the snake. I much rather have a few black rats around and loose and egg or 2 than have the rats around and loose chickens and chicks. Rats are way worse than snakes I know I own both. When I used to breed dogs I was told that rats will steal and eat puppies.

Thanks guys this is great!
Well, it's actually my pen that against the house that provides them shade and close enough to hear whats going on with them. They aren't running around or anything. The smell so far isn't bad. I rake out the pen when it gets smelly, I use hay and DE with a dirt floor in the pen. So far it has worked out great. Adn I put a glof ball in the nest following advise on here. You just always have someone thats going to tell you what you are doing is wrong.

Any other myths??

Ok, I've never heard of ACV in the water for poop smell

Long story short, ACV maintains a healthy digestive system. A healthy digestive system doesn't smell as bad as a less healthy one.
