Time to roost?

My flock is 6 weeks old and still cuddles together on the ground at night even though we have plenty of roost bar/space for them in the coop. During the day they roost and sleep on the roost bars out in the enclosure and will even go into the coop and nap on the roost bars but once night hits they refuse to roost and cuddle up. Is this normal (I'm a newbie to chickens)? When should they start roosting at night? Are there any tricks to get them to roost?

Most birds begin to roost around 10-12 weeks of age. I wouldn't recommend encouraging them any younger than they naturally begin to as early roosting can cause crooked breastbones in some heavy breeds. They will roost when they are ready.
