I was working in my chicken shed with my son when a spastic alpha rooster came screaming into the shed. My 7 y/o son said an eagle almost got it. It would make sense with the amount of freak in the roosters voice and demeanor. Since that time they have not ventured far from my shed. Immediately behind my shed is a large corn field. They like to hang out in the corn and in the shed itself. They used to venture a ways from the shed. My house is over 100 yards from the shed and they used to easily come to the house. Now the barely even venture 10-20 yards from their home. Most are young (4 months old) with a few older hens. Rooster in charge is young. I am happy that he protected his flock and proved himself, but there a lot of bugs and critters to be found further out. How long until they start moving further out again or is this rooster now officially spooked and will stay close to home?
