I saw some timothy hay at walmart today, and figured chickens could do something with it

. What do I use it for, Bedding? Food? I am not sure its a green hay, and kinda looks edible but I want to be sure before I give it to them

Sometimes hay can cause crop inpactions but having 'greenery' in their diet is beneficial so what I do is put it in a blender and sprinkle it on their pellets.

pips&peeps :

That hay is probably for bunnies.....

Lots of animals eat hay, but yes, the pet stores sell it mainly for guinea pigs/rabbits/chinchillas etc

It is fine for chickens.. Like hooligan said sometimes it can cause crop impaction. If you want is use it for treats blend it or soak it overnight.
*Oh, and make sure they have plenty of access to grit if you don't blend it.

I would use it in the nest boxes. Don't know if the chickens care but it smells nice.

When I treat my girls with hay type stuff I just but a bag of pelleted hay and soak it for them.. They love it. Alfalfa pellets are a big hit too.
