Tiny Broody Coop

The chick hatched sometime last night or early this morning! Millie is a good mama and Buttercup seems to be content in her eggs and hasn't bothered the new chick. I lifted Buttercup this afternoon and to my surprise I saw at least one of her eggs has pipped. So all the chicks should hatch withing one to two days of each other. I guess with how hot and humid it has been the eggs developed faster than I anticipated. I collected them through the week of the the 7th-13th and set them to hatch the evening of the 14th. Millie started sitting on her egg the same day. Her egg hatched on the 18th day. The big eggs are now on day 19 and pipping.

OMG that tiny cute thing blends in perfectly with the shavings! Such a cute baby.
Congratulations!

It looks like 3 chicks have hatched so far and one more chick wasn't able to hatch and died :( there are 3 more eggs to go and one has pipped. The one egg had been pushed out of the nesting box and was cold and when I candled it a few days later the chick was developed, but the air sac was very large and the chick looked weirdly positioned at one end. That was the chick that died. I'm not sure what happened, but it did not absorb the yolk. I will post pictures once everyone has hatched and I'm able to get in there and actually look at the chicks.
