My Husband has decided that every little chic we have (6 - weeks plus) that has the smallest of combs is a male and have to be put down NOW.

I don't want to put them down in case he is wrong! (and the thought of it makes me feel just disgusting. they will be given away not having their heads lopped off)

so, question being, is he right or can females start to grow combs at this age?
we have a selection of breeds and this is not just occurring in one breed.

any thoughts?

differing breeds have different sized combs, different shaped combs and grow at different rates. usually when looking at combs the bigger ones are the most likely to be male and the smallest female, so if this was the case ( breed dependent) then you would be getting rid of all your females and only keeping males. however at that age it is usually to young to tell and it is best to let them grow on so that it is more definite.

thank you!
