This is the first time I have posted, and also the first time I have hatched any chicks! My hen has been sitting on 3 eggs (it was 6, but it took me three bloody cracked eggs to realize what was going on and give them back!) From what I had cracked last monday (1/18) they seemed to be around day 5. I candled them on 1/24 and I saw spider veins and what looked like healthy progress! Then, today, 1/26 I went out to look and one of them has a hairline fracture on the top and what looks like a speck of dried blood. Not much at all. I candled it and can still see the veins and air sac. By my estimation the egg is about 14 days old. It was not dropped and the temp has been around 42 at night, but our hen has barely left them! What happened? Will it live? if a little blood already came out is it too late to seal with wax?
