Hello again!

We got some new babies that will hopefully give us a better male-female ratio, and one of them has a weird little puff on her head. When I got them a week ago, they were about 3.5-4 weeks old. Does she just have funny hair or could this be a slight showing of the crested gene? She’s our little runt right now.

Thank you in advance!

Lovely ducks!

Looks like a tiny crest to me. We got a bunch at a farm supply and all the white ones turned out to have crests. One actually has her spot of the side of her head. Yours looks about like the one of ours directly in front of the green chair - so just a tiny puff.

Yep at least its small. @AdorkableMom , I had one with two crests, one on each side, she was deaf.
Yes, it does cause her issues (she is noticeably less coordinated than the others) but as long as it doesn't seem to cause her pain and she can eat, drink and walk on her own I'm not going to worry about it. Not sure if its related or not but she is also the nicest one of this lot and lets you hold her. How could you tell yours was deaf? Just not reacting to sound? I guess it never occurred to me that they could be deaf (I need to pay more attention to mine I guess.)

She alarm quacked whenever she couldn't see the others, really really loud. I could sneak up on her, unintentionally after I figure out what was going on. If I picked her up, and walked out of sight of the others, she needed help finding them even though they were quacking for her. I figure the crest deformities were where her ears should have been and she didn't have ears.
