My little Gray Call hen has an irritated eye to which I have been applying Terramyacin cream.
The problem is, as soon as I apply it, she immediately starts rubbing her head on her back, furiously shaking her head, scratching at her eye and dunking her head in the water-in short, she flips out.
My question is, is the Terramyacin even being given a chance to work or could it be making the situation worse because it causes her to scratch at her eye something fierce.

Any suggestions or other options for treatment would be appreciated.

Never mind-solution found.
I put my husband in a chair, holding her in his lap and they both fell asleep long enough for the medicine to get in her eye good.

Glad her eye is better. But here is an idea for you anyway...lol.

I use regular people antibiotic drops for all my chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, whatever. I have the ointment too and they hate that goopy stuff.

I save all my eye drop crap from the doctor, I bet you could even bum some off your friends/family/neighbors?

You really DO have an awesome hubby for him to do that for you.
What a guy....

Hope it's nothing serious and this fixed her.

Peace

It already looks better-my poor little baby.
Yeah, my husband looked REAL tough sitting there with that tiny duck in his lap-I tried to sneak a picture to post and he was having none of that!

We really thought about making her a cone of shame, but were afraid if she got flipped on her back, she couldn't get up AND she couldn't drink AND she would be a laughingstock...
