My son came in this morning telling us there's a chick in the coop. My first thought was he must've made up something and he's pretending it's a chick. He's 6 and he does it all the time! So I went to have a look and lo and behold, it was a teeny tiny black and white chick with the cutest little speckled face. But where did she come from???? None of my hens were broody and we've only been here 9 days.
My MIL's bantams are running around here too and one of her hens we suspected were broody. She had one tiny egg in a plant pot next to the house, but I never saw her sit on it. But she must've at some point, cause that egg hatched. My son found the chicks and placed her in our coop before calling us. Reuniting her with the bantam hen didn't work well, so I'm looking after the little one, now called Tiny, as she really is teeny tiny! I've hatched chicks 3 times the size of this little thing.
And right now she's happily cheeping and talking under my chin, tucked into my jersey. I'm going to have to try reuniting her with her chicken mom soon or I'm going to be in trouble!
