I was wondering if anyone else has ever had one of their girls lay a small egg without a yolk. One of mine did, and since it was in the middle of the floor in the coop I'm thinking it might have been one of the little pullets that hatched out a few months ago(I'm now building another pen for broody hens, but it wasn't ready for that clutch, so the younguns have always been in with the older hens). She'd be pretty young, only about 4 months old, but she's larger than a quail and the egg was a little larger than a quail egg. I know weird things happen sometimes with the eggs, but this is a first for me. Wish I had taken a picture of it before I opened it, but I was totally wanting to see what was inside.

Everyone has a bad day now and then.

Do a BYC search for "fart egg". You will learn more than you ever wanted.

Thanks! I've never before heard of fart eggs - thought I had something really rare there!!

I've had several this year...always from new layers or girls off lay who are coming back into lay. They just contain a bit of albumin.
