Tip of beak broken off

So one of my fave ladies seems to have injured herself. I noticed her beak was a bit dull and looking closer it looks like the tip was broken off. There was however, a small thin peice of the sticking out a bit. Maybe it is the roof of ther beak or a basement layer for the beak to grow back maybe? Does anyone have any thoughts on this. I am trying to post a good picture but she moves really fast.
