I cannot find any information on exhibition / showing heritage turkeys. What is done months before to get them ready? Weeks before? Is it similar to prepping chickens for exhibition? Any advice would be extremely helpful.

I have never shown turkeys(because mine are a 3 breed cross) but I read a little bit of info in my book and it said that you can wash off their feet clean out there feathers, no clipping feathers that's cheating. Make sure they have a nice beast and stance. You can find info on a book called Storeys guide to raising ducks geese turkeys guinea and more. I can't remember the title that we'll but it's something like that

While it has been many years since I have shown turkeys it is much like showing chickens; the preparation begins at hatch with good quality nutrition and clean water. Take care of parasites both internal and external with diligence so that the bird can grown to its potential and feather out well with no damaged feathers from mites and lice. Keep them on pasture so that they remain in good condition and make sure they have ample shade to protect feathers from fading in the sunlight. About six to eight weeks prior to the start of the shows prepare your birds for the experience by placing them in show cages and work with them by handling them regularly so that when you place them in the show they don't injure themselves because they have never been close to a human being let alone been handled by one; this is not a good scenario for the turkey, judge or passersby.
All the best in your turkey showing endeavors,

Bo
