Tips for hatching silkies.

Hi! 2/3 are chirping at me but no external pip yet! I nearly cried!!! What are their risks now they've pipped internally? Just so I know what to avoid. Humidity is at 72% and temp is 36.6. I opened the incy to check on them and when they started cheeping I put them straight back in! Humidity only dipped to 65% and climbed right back up.

Is humidity most important after an external pip? Xxx

sorry I just saw this.. any babies yet??

Internal pips are good :) they're letting you know that they are on their way! After my eggs start chirping I've noticed they usually externally pip within the next day or 36 hours but that's just my experience...

I know it's hard but DON'T OPEN UP THE INCUBATOR ANYMORE!!!

Humidity is a debatable issue as some people prefer dry hatches and don't even bother fussing with a humidity gauge.. I prefer to monitor and tweak humidity .. most people who do monitor humidity try to keep it around 75-80ish during the last three days but I've even had successful hatches when the humidity is only around 60-65% so I guess it just depends what works for you individually!

Good luck!!!

Hi! Yes two beautiful chicks today. One more external pip! I actually had to lift the lid after chick no1 because she'd kicked egg no2 into a corner so it couldn't open!! I moved it into a clearing and she hatched immediately, perfectly timed on my 20min lunch break!!!

My humidity is way up in the 70s and reached 80 after the two hatched. So not too worried about egg no 3 as humidity never dropped below 65 even when I'd lifted the lid. Had no choice really! Xxx

I've never been so in love! A third one has hatched since, jet black. 100% post lockdown hatch rate first time- so chuffed! (Did lose another black one on day 16 for unknown reason).

Any idea what I'd call my tortoiseshell one? SHE (wishful thinking!) looks exactly like my tabby cat! I was thinking splash or partridge but not sure :-S xxx

I thought as much :-)

My two black chicks have greyish chests and vents... Are they splashes or will they eventually become black? Xxx

My 3 little ones are changing colour a little. They started off yellow with black and tan stripes, but one looks greyish today. It is an adventure waiting to see how they turn out.
