Tips for working with chicken wire / poultry netting? ** updated **

Yes, but anytime I'm using chicken wire it's not for predator-protection anyway. Chickens can't pull staples out (at least, mine can't)

I staple hardware cloth or welded wire down in heavier-duty applications to hold it up handily, and then predator proof it with lots of the bigger hammer-in style staples or screws/washers.

I just use 1/2" stainless steel staples, in one of the a fore mentioned hand staplers. Goes all the way in most of the time and when it doesn't I just give it a hit with a hammer.

I have a large run to enclose. I am using 16 gauge 1" x 1" welded wire and I plan to run lath strips to clamp and finish. I however want to staple the wire in place 1st and I want something that will be fast and secure. Hammering in U staples is a pain in more ways than one. A) I am thinking to try a medium crown pneumatic stapler. Crown dimension is 7/16" and staple is 16 gauge. This is a fairly pricy tool (+ $200) although I will have some other uses for it. It seems to me this will give a good solid attachment although I am not sure how difficult accuracy will be? B) I thought of using an electric or pneumatic Arrow Stapler. The Arrow PT50 pneumatic fires regular staples and prices at a bit under $60. Any thoughts of experience from someone who may have tried these two approaches?

Regular staples are not sturdy enough imo. I use a pneumatic stapler and it works great. You just have to take an extra second and make sure the center of the stapler is where you want the staple to be because the staples are narrow but quite sturdy.

When you say 'regular staples' are not sturdy enough, I'm not sure what you mean. The PT50 is a medium crown pneumatic stapler that accepts different types of staples with a 3/8'' crown. Is this stapler acceptable and what size staple, (of the types it can hold) would be sufficient? Thanks in advance.
