tips needed for slipping chicks under a broody - SUCCESS

Keep us updated. I wore DH's oversized coat and had chicks in one pocket and put the eggs in the other and I then put in the chicks. They went right in. Momma didn't even move. We only had 2 chicks but she cared for them well. Here's a pic of her and the chicks when they were much to old to be babied, she still did though.

Yeah, that's why I grabbed the camera!

See the feet at the bottom, those belong to the chick on the left!

I agree, those chicks are way too old to need to snuggle! But if mama isn't complaining, why should they, right?

That pic was actually from a few weeks ago, they don't try to snuggle anymore since they are roosting but momma sits right between them every night and she still protects them from the others!

I love mamas like that! I have a couple of hens that stuck with their chicks for months, one even kept her chicks near even after they (the chicks) started laying eggs!

Just took the chicks out of the bator and out to the broody. Of course she pecked me. I'm trying to get 11 chicks under her. Some went under, some were next to her. More pecking at me. Couple of pecks at chicks. Gave them a couple of minutes. Few chicks still out and she gave them a peck or two by my dim light. Slid them in closer, and let them be for 5 min. Gave another check and not a chick to be seen. Quiet peeps from under her. Keeping my fingers crossed. Give another 15 or 20, a quick check, and then to bed. I'll be up early, and give an update.

Thanks for all the support!
