Hi, does anyone know what's going on with my girl's comb? The tip of one of the points is brown and sort of fibrous looking. She's an 8 month old Buff Orpington and otherwise seems healthy and is behaving normally. She's my favorite, and I'm really hoping this is nothing serious!

@aart - is this minor frostbite?
Looks like it could be, but with the greenery in the background I'm doubting a cold enough climate.

Could also be an injury.

@sharonieoh
Could she have been bitten by another bird?

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Hi @aart I'm in Portland Oregon. It's usually not that cold here, but I guess it has dropped to just above freezing the last couple of nights. My chicks have been sleeping in their enclosed run for about a week now -- there's a leak in the henhouse roof and we're getting some mildew which is why I think they stopped sleeping up there. So I guess it could be frostbite.

I think I'll put tarps up at night while we're repairing the henhouse.
