Does anyone have any good resources on building a duck pond? I can't seem to find much online. I just need some basic info, like perhaps: size per # of ducks, lining options, cleaning requirements, safe fish and plants, etc.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

Wifezilla is the person I consider the duck pond expert. Take a look at some of her posts - the search can help you. I would try Wifezilla pond as the keywords.

I only have two ducks and mine use my garden pond. It is hand dug and about 4 feet deep and 8' by 8' (not a perfect square but that's the general dimensions). It is lined with the liner you buy at any hardware store for the purpose of using in a garden pond. It' is currently 12 years old and still not a leak. I built a plant shelf around it and I have a stone sitting on one side to help the ducks get out so they don't use their claws.
As far as plants, if they eat any of mine it's so little I don't even notice. I have cattail, water iris, some other iris and also add water cabbage and some plant from Africa in the summer.
I have regular koi and goldfish and again if they have ever eaten one I have never noticed.
I do have a water filter at the bottom (along with my uv filter on the outside) that needs to be cleaned about evry two weeks or so especially when the ducks go into molt but it takes all of about 20 minutes. I added the bottom filter simply because of the ducks to help catch the poo and their feathers.
I would say the pond holds 2000 gallons of water.

Scooter - what kind of filter do you have at the bottom? I am thinking that I am not going to be able to get away without one.

Man, if you plan a pond, be aware that if you DON'T have filtration, it will become a mosquito heaven! I have a small kiddie pool for my quacks and have to empty it every few weeks. Ducks are messy! The nice clean water becomes scummy in less than a week!

Not to mention that it attracts other items like, snakes, frogs, critters........

Hi all. I need to update my link, but the pond info is in my sig. I already have a crop of daikon radishes growing in one of the planters. The ducks don't have full time access anymore due to the stupid hawk, but a couple of times I week I let them in to play.
