tips on sexing cuckoo marans

I hatched some cuckoo marans a few months ago, and I would definitely agree that this looks like a pullet.

I was told that when chicks are sexed at the hatchery they are placed in the palm on their back with their tail toward the wrist and their head toward the end of their fingers. Then gently squeeze with the thumb and index finger and the opening widens. If their is a small dot on the bottom lip it is a rooster. I actually have tried this and 9 out of 10 times this has been correct. Has anyone been told this by a reliable source or tried it?

I have not personally but from what I have read you need to super careful and it should only be done on day olds. I would be afraid to hurt them. How old were the ones you checked? I am going nits trying to figure out my babies!

I usually sex them from day 1 to day 3. I don't really like to sex them on day 1 because they are so delicate.

You are right. You need to be very careful and you don't neet to squeez hard, just gently and it will open.

I re-read my original comment. I need to clarify that you are squeezing on their tail. Sorry.
