Tips to dam the water bowl river?

Our community water bowl is set on one of those little child's step stools - the one that has the step either folded up (as a backing) or down as a step (the way we use it so the cats and little dog have easy access)...really old-school wooden thing. We place an old towel underneath the whole thing, and it works great. We have a GP that spews at least as much water as he takes in, and this seems to have stemmed the flow. Just need to wash the towel with other dog-towel type items every few days. I also heve a small water bowl on the bookshelf where the cats eat (out of dog range) so the cats aren't subjected to the dog slime!

I just put a towel under the bowl..its absorbs all the sloshed water and saint bernard drool .
Every other day or so i just toss the towel in the wash... easy peasy.

ha... I know what your talkin about.... My dogs do the same. We've moved the water dish out to the garage. They have to go out there to drink it. Generally that door is open unless the heat or ac is on. One of my corsos puts more slobber and drewl into her water then I think she ever gets water out of it....it's great when she flings that slobber out along the walls and ceilings.....we're talking multible strings of it 3' long! She's not the norm for the breed cause she's mentally challenged (really has brain damage).

For your dish, can you baracade it a little? make it like a shoot so they have to walk in, and then back out.. and put a rug where they back out of the shoot. Maybe that will stop the drink-by-slobbings.

Yeah my cavalier likes those. The dogs have all been banished from the basement for that reason.

I get the water bowl river here too. It is mostly my Newfie mix doing it, but sometimes they all want a drink at the same time. That's usually when someone gets the bright idea to use the permenant water bowl in the bathroom
