Tips to raising a GOOD rooster?

I agree with silkiechicken that it is largely the roo to begin with; however, establishing yourself as top roo makes a big difference as well. If the roo thinks he is the boss of you, he is likely to be more aggressive towards you. Gritsar has a great member page on rooster reform. I would recommend reading it (if you see her post, click on the member page link under her avatar). While you don't need to reform any roos, it gives great insight into how a rooster thinks.

I agree that it has alot to do with the personality of the individual cockerel to begin with. However, I have had two roos. The babied one lost his fear of me (and other humans) and decided to challenge us.
The one that was never handled has matured into the most awesome roo, my Thor.
I will never baby another roo.
If they are going to be sweet and you baby them, then no problem.
If they have even an ounce of aggressiveness in their blood and you take away their natural mistrust of humans, you have given them a helping hand in trying to dominant you.
Everybody does it differently, but this is what's worked for me and I ain't gonna fix what ain't broke.
