Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Got my new chicken. She's a Rhode island red and 3 years old. They said she hasn't laid eggs but I'm hoping with our setup she will. She's fitting right in, she's in the 40x30 foot dog kennel that's connected to our free range run. She can see our birds, but has no contact. She's so pretty.

Now she needs a name...

That's great that integration is going so smoothly! :thumbsup Where did she come from? How did she come to live with you? Maybe that will help to pick a cute name. Pictures!

She came from a friend of my husband. We traded her for 4 of our chicks. I named her Ol' Red like the Blake Shelton song, it's one of my favorite songs.

No progress yet but I can still see the beak moving through the hole. The others are very quiet but maybe are waiting to get out until tonight. They will start day 21 at 8:30 tonight.

Doesn't it feel like they take even longer to hatch when they pip upsidedown? lol, It's like I have this internal timer that starts ticking when I see that external pip and upsidedown babies mess me all up.

Running dry at 25% humidity for the emus. Their weights are spot on. The styrofoam bator with the chicken eggs is at 18% to 19% humidity. Their air cells are Poifect. Not adding water anymore until I see a problem with running them dry.

Wait... I’m not supposed to be hatching anymore babies! Hehehe
This time around I only added water at th start. I didn’t want to move the eggs very much with the second set of shipped having detached air cells....

Candled, the only survivor from the first shipped eggs looks good.. day 14 for it...
Second batch out of 11, 5 are developing, a few with blood rings, one has veins but not moving and a few with no development....

I feel so bad now for always telling folks to not panic until it’s like dat 22 or so. And here I al at day 20 at the tip of my seat. I would feel mich better tough if I wouldn’t have had all this trouble this time around.
