Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

These three babies are the ones I'm running low humidity during lockdown and I seem to be having an easier time with hatching. Thank you so much Fort Cluck I think we will be using much lower humidity in the future for lockdown. In the summer I won't need to add any water at all. Last baby pipped late last night early morning so will probably hatch later today. Seems like we've got the temp locked in and the humidity being lower is definitely helping.

Well. I finally got around to candling my shipped Marans eggs that are on day 16. So. Many. Quitters. Out of 14 all but 3 have quit or are clear. Sigh. One now has an air cell and a fully dark egg. Another egg is quite large so there is a bit more clear space but I think it’s developing in there. And another I think must have quit really recently but I’m leaving it in just in case. I took the turner out and don’t plan on turning them any more. With my luck, one will hatch and be sad and alone. :(
I candled another group of eggs I have on day 7 and 3/5 F1 Olive eggers are developing. All 4 Flowery Easter Eggers are developing. The 1 Blue Marans Quit, as well as the Barnevelder and I couldn’t tell on the 2 BCMs.

This pic is all the eggs I pulled tonight. :(View attachment 2038787
Oh no!!! Did you check the clears to see if they were fertilized?

What did you end up increasing humidity to? 40 or 45%? Just curious, though I think I'm selling my Hovabator so I don't know that it will matter other than just filing it away in my noggin. lol

Mine aren't expensive breeds but they are sought after up here. People want colors other than Lavender in orps up here and there are only a few people breeding. This year we will have mauves, silvers, blues, black, splash and chocolates and any babies that come from my personal eggs are all split to mottled so if bred to a mottled rooster will have mottled babies. Even to get them from a hatchery like Meyers they are 20$ to 30$ a chick at hatch. I would grow them out to full feathering for that price.
I live in a rural, poor area. I'm lucky to get $15 for a point of lay chicken. No one would pay more than $5 for any chick.

I ended up increasing it to 35% and held it there. When the babies started popping out of the eggs it increased on it's own to 47% and then dropped back down to 38 where it's at now.

Here it's usually $5 per chick for pure breeds. Really common chicks, backyard mixes, or something like Easter Eggers will only go for $2-3. If it's a autosexing breed I charge $8 for females and males are $Free because that seems to be the hardest thing to move in my market. Roosters.
